Martin Verdonk

Martin Verdonk, born April 5 1959 in Willemstad (Curaçao ) is a Dutch pop, jazz and Latin percussionist . Along with Santana percussionist Raul Rekow and Orestes Vilató he formed the band Congarilla with whom he toured Europe between 1986 and 1989. In 1990 he joined the band Lois Lane, who played as a support act for the 'Nude tour' by Prince . This lead to several performances with Prince, including the performance at London's Wembley Stadium. Verdonk played as a guest musician both live and in the studio with numerous jazz, rock, pop, world and fusion musicians and bands, including Donna Summer, Lionel Richie, James Taylor, Steve Winwood, Ilse Delange, Nick & Simon and Doe Maar. He is the bandleader of his own band Martin Verdonk 's Tribal Fusion since 1995. With this band he recorded two albums. Verdonk is in addition to his active career as a musician, teacher at the conservatory of Rotterdam. More than ten times Verdonk was chosen by the readers of the journal Slagwerkkrant for 'percussionist of the year'.
